LiveStrong Calorie TrackerFrom Lipton’s 1880 founding, it has grown into the world’s largest seller of packaged tea in 2010. In the U.S., Lipton sells green tea, six flavored green teas and three Superfruit Green Teas. Flavors include Mint, Lemon Ginseng, Cranberry Pomegranate, and White Mangosteen and Peach.

The tea tasters at Lipton blend teas from 35 countries and company-owned tea plantations in Kenya, India and Tanzania to create the same taste in every cup of green tea. Each batch of tea has to be custom blended because growing conditions, such as weather, change the taste of tea. Green tea has antioxidants, flavonoids and other biologically active substances that may prevent heart disease. Green tea also contains caffeine. Harvard School of Public Health states that drinking up to 3 cups of tea per day is healthy.

Depending on the flavor of tea, different combinations of herbs are used. Lipton tea blenders use ginseng, licorice root, roasted chicory root and cinnamon in some of the flavored green teas. Mint tea blends spearmint and peppermint with green tea. In other flavors, subtle citrus flavors come from orange peel, lemon grass, hibiscus flowers and lemon peel.

All the Lipton green teas, except 100 percent natural and Mint, contain natural flavors and soy lecithin. Natural flavors are oils extracted from natural sources such as fruits or flowers, which are blended to create fresh fruit tastes. Soy lecithin is an emulsifier used to stabilize the flavors into granules that are packaged into tea bags.

Lipton Superfruit Green Teas contain fruit juice solids and sunflower lecithin. The dried fruit juices that are used come from fruits rich in antioxidants. Purple Acai and Blueberry Green Tea contain pomegranate juice, blueberry juice and cherry juice. Blueberry juice is found in Red Goji and Raspberry Tea. White Mangosteen and Peach Tea has white mangosteen and peach juices. Sunflower lecithin is an emulsifier used with the fruit juice solids.
